Kelsey Horowitz
In my four years at Dickinson, my experience inside and outside of the classroom has led me to develop many skills. In my Environmental Studies lab courses, I learned technical skills such as how to collect water and soil samples, how to run various experiments using lab equipment and how to analyze data using Excel. In my other courses, I developed research skills such as finding scholarly articles and the ability to critically think about various perspectives in order to complete many research papers on a wide range of topics. I have also learned the importance of communication and deadlines in order work efficiently and effectively in groups.
My experiences in a liberal arts environment has taught me to think critically about how so many fields overlap. This is unique because an International Business and Management course may have a sustainability aspect and concentration. These cross-listed courses are a reflection of how diverse society is and the possibilities for careers post-graduation. In addition, I have taken classes that I never thought I would take, such as Photography, Philosophy and International Relations. Although I did not pursue these majors, I was still able to take introductory courses in order to figure out if the field was of interest to me. If it had not been for the liberal arts approach, I would have never taken these courses.
